Jaden Wiser, Environmental, Soil and Water Sciences “After graduation, I plan to become an environmental consultant and take an exam through the Soil Scientist Society of America to become a professional soil scientist. After I gain work experience, I would like to attend graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in wetland ecology. Joining the Soil Judging team in the Davis College was a pivotal experience for me. When I first took Dr. Thompson’s soil judging lab and his soil genesis and classification course, I discovered a deep passion for soil science. His enthusiasm made the subject come alive, especially during our field trips, where I experienced firsthand the incredible diversity of soils. Competing at the 2024 Southeast Regional Soil Judging competition in Lexington, Kentucky, was a game changer. I gained valuable knowledge and experience that solidified my confidence in pursuing a career as a soil scientist. As graduation approaches, I feel excited and prepared to make my mark in this field.”
