The Student Employment Team at Career Services can assist you!
Students
- Providing students with access to job opportunities on campus through their Handshake account. Students can log into their account using their WVU login credentials through Single Sign On.
- Assist students in earning money to finance their education.
- Help students refine their unique talents and explore their career options.
- Broaden students’ classroom education with work skills complementing their course of study.
WVU Supervisors
- Career Services and the WVU Hub post positions to Handshake. Supervisors are discouraged from having an employer/user account. Instead, we ask supervisors to complete the Student Employment Job Posting Request Form.
- Facilitating departmental hiring of students to meet their part-time employment needs.
- Familiarizing and educating supervisors and student employees with the practices and procedures of student employment at West Virginia University, assuring that all institutional, governmental (state and federal) guidelines and requirements are met.
- Educate and assist supervisors in their role and provide administrative support.
- Ensuring student work assignments are processed accurately and promptly.
The WVU Student Employment Program provides job opportunities to all students regardless of sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, race, or creed.
Student Employment FAQ’s
Both Career Services and the WVU Hub manages student employment.
Career Services oversees regular student employment and manages Handshake. The WVU Hub oversees the Federal Work Study employment program and manages financial aid.
Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions are paid out of federally designated funds. Students who are offered work-study must accept their offer in STAR to become eligible.
Regular student employment (non-FWS) positions are paid out of the departmental budgets of the colleges or units.
Handshake is WVU’s career management platform for students and alumni where available on and off campus positions are posted. Not every on-campus role is advertised via Handshake, you should also explore the websites of on-campus employers that generally hire large numbers of students every year.
Every student automatically has a Handshake account using WVU login credentials. Handshake allows WVU to be compliant with federal hiring guidelines and ensures Federal Work-Study dollars are used prior to institutional funds when funding positions
